The Dixie Study Club of Kingsport started in 1939. The purpose of the club was to study Southern Literature and history. Membership in the club was limited to women from southern states. The charter members were Mrs. Shuey, Mrs. Carroll, Mrs. Todd, Mrs. Gillenwater, Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Riley, Mrs. Spencer, Mrs. Stephensen, and Mrs. Warrik.
