The Friends of the Archives of the City of Kingsport’s Annual Meeting and Betty Gibson Memorial Lecture will be presented Thursday, October 6 at 6:30 in the Renaissance Center Theatre. Barbara Goodlett, former English teacher and assistant principal at Dobyns-Bennett High School, will be the featured speaker again this year but will present a new program titled “Broad Street, from Church Circle to the Train Station, 1940s-1970s.” The program is free and open to the public.
Prior to the lecture, the Friends of the Archives will be hosting an opening reception for the “Kingsport Revisited” Exhibit, an exhibition of new photographs from ETSU students based on historic images of Kingsport from the Kingsport Archives. The exhibit and reception starts at 5:30 in the Renaissance Center’s 2nd Floor Atrium. The exhibit will be on display from October 1-November 10, 2011 in celebration of American Archives Month. The exhibit is open to the public Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit is sponsored by the Kingsport Public Library and Archives, Friends of the Archives and the Mary B. Martin School of the Arts.
