Miss Kingsport Scholarship Pageant

The 57th annual Miss Kingsport Scholarship Pageant will take place this Saturday, July 10 from 7-10 pm at the Eastman Employee Center.

The event is sponsored by the Kingsport Jaycees and Eastman Chemical Company. The Kingsport Jaycees have been conducting the Miss Kingsport Scholarship Pageant for over 50 years.

The pageant consists of interview, evening wear, talent, and lifestyle and fitness components. Each contestant must have a platform or issue that she supports and will promote in the community if she is crowned Miss Kingsport.

Through the Miss Kingsport Scholarship Pageant, the Kingsport Jaycees have awarded more than $250,000 in scholarship money for college. The Jaycees awarded the second highest scholarships in the state to last year’s contestants. The winner of Miss Kingsport competes in the Miss Tennessee scholarship pageant, the winner of which competes for the Miss America title.

Louise Slaughter (right), a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett, was crowned Miss Kingsport. Jeanette Conkin's talent was a pantomime to Betty Hutton's recording of "Stuff Like That There." Louise Slaughter played Greig's Norwegian Concerto in A Minor, a piano solo, as her talent.
