HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST
There are two categories in this contest: a visual art category and a written category. To enter the Contest, you must create a drawing or painting and/or an essay, short story, short play, or poem pertaining to/inspired by Tom Sawyer, Mark Twain, or the world of Mark Twain in general. Then submit your entry at the Kingsport Public Library. All entries must be original. The person who is entering the contest must fill out a Release Form (available at the library). If you are under 18, the form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Entries for the visual art category should be no larger than 16”x 20” and no smaller than 8.5” x 11” in size. Entries for the written category should be no more than 2,500 words. Written entries must be typed. Entries should not have the entrants name visible on the entry. A separate sheet of paper with the entrant’s information should be submitted with the entry so that entries can be judged anonymously.
You may submit one entry in the visual art category and one entry in the written category, provided each entry is entirely original and that you are eligible to participate in the Contest at the time you submit each entry. Once an entry is submitted, you may not edit it or resubmit it with edits.
All entries submitted to the Contest must be original. You must be the sole owner of any copyright of any material submitted. Your submission of each Entry is your guarantee that you are the author, creator, or sole copyright holder of the material submitted. By submitting an Entry, you also represent and warrant that the Entries that you submit do not infringe on the copy right of any other persons or entity and that you have not submitted the material to any other contest. If the ownership of the Entry is contested in any manner, the Library Manager may disqualify that Entry.
Rights of Use:
You shall retain the copyright to any Entry and all other rights thereof EXCEPT: by entering the Contest, you agree to have your submitted material displayed on www.kingsportlibrary.org without any fee or other form of compensation. In addition, you hereby grant an unlimited license to the Library to copy, display, broadcast, distribute or otherwise use your Entry for any purpose, including, but not limited to, promotion of the Library. You agree that the City of Kingsport/Library may use your Entry in any media in association with the Contest without attribution or compensation to the Entrant, his or her successor or assignees or any other entity. You agree that the Library will not be liable to your or to any third party for any editing, adaptation, modification and/or publication of any Entry.

SELECTION OF THE WINNER:
A panel of 3 (three) judges will use a rubric to score each entry. The Winner is the entry with the highest score. The Second and Third place winners are the entries who receive the second and third highest scores respectively. In the case of a tie, the Library manager will have the deciding vote. All decisions are final. The library reserves the right not to award all the prizes.
To be determined. All winning entries in the visual art categories will be displayed at the Renaissance Center. All winning entries in the written categories MAY be published in the Kingsport Times News. All winning entries in all categories will be displayed on the Kingsport Public Library’s website. Prizes won by minors will be awarded to the minor and delivered to a parent or legal guardian. If the prize is forfeited by the Winner and results in no Winner claiming any part of the First Prize, the Entry receiving the next highest score will be deemed the Winner and will be awarded the Prize.
NOTIFICATION OF WINNER
The winners (or parent or legal guardian of a minor) will be notified of their prize by mail, telephone or email and will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and liability publicity release within five days of notification or upon redemption of prize.
