Fun Fest Event: Hot Air Balloon Rally

This Saturday, July 18, is one of the most popular Fun Fest Events,  the Hot Air Balloon Rally. There will be two launch times that day, 7 am and 6:30 pm.  Both launch times are weather permitting.

According to the Fun Fest Website, there will be between 20-25 balloonists from all over that will launch the hot air balloons from Fort Henry Drive in front of J. Fred Johnson stadium at 7:00 am.

For the second launch at 6:30 pm, the balloonists will launch from Fort Henry Drive and Indian Highland Park.

Interesting facts about hot-air ballooning:

*Hot-air ballooning is the oldest form of successfully engineered human flight.

*Hot air balloons were discovered in France in 1783 by brothers  Joesph and Jacques Montgolfier.

* The first balloons were sent up without any passengers and later various animals were used.

*On November 21, 1783, the first balloon carrying people, Pilatre de Rozier and Francois Laurnet,  was launched in Paris. The balloon rose about 500 feet and traveled for over 5 miles. Not bad for the first attempt!

There will also be the Hot Air Balloon Glow event on Friday at 8:30 on Fort Henry Drive in front of the Civic Auditorium, following the Fun Fest Beach Party.

Did you know that there was a hot air ballooning company here in Kingsport? Well…there is! The Adventure Time Hot Air Ballooning Company is located in downtown Kingsport and will be participating in this years Fun Fest.
