Local historian Kenny Stallard will be presenting “A View from the Hill-The Birth of a City” a pictorial discussion of the birth of Kingsport from 1910-1919, depicting the growth of the downtown business district as seen from Cement Hill.
The presentation will be at 9:00 am this Friday, June 19 at the Renaissance Center, Room 239. The program is sponsored by the Kingsport Senior Center’s Genealogy Club.
Kenny Stallard, member of the board of directors, Friends of the Archives and a webmaster for several websites that feature local history and genealogy, will also be presenting a genealogy workshop during Fun Fest. The workshop entitled “Climbing your Family Tree” will be held at the Kingsport Public Library’s Mead Auditorium on July 11 from 10:00-12:00. The program will feature informative and entertaining ways to bring your family’s history to life. Learn about library resources such as Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest, as well as other genealogy resources.
This event is free but requires pre-registration. Registrations should be made by phone at 224-2539 or in person at the Palmer Room (4th floor) in the Library. This event is sponsored by the Kingsport Public Library.
